Double LP

From the already vibrant scene of Copenhagen rises a group extraordinaire! A quintet led by Kresten Osgood, one of the busiest and finest European improvising drummers, featuring hand picked selection of the most prolific younger generation improvisers from the local scene. The outcome is ballistic! Their album is as straight forward as it's name suggests, Kresten Osgood Quintet indeed plays jazz, interpreting a wide selection of less known tunes from Dolphy, Monk, Mingus, Ellington, Davis, Jerome Cooper, Elmo Hope, and a few Osgood's originals. And they play jazz in the truest spirit of the legends mentioned above - full of the forward pointing character, taking a lot of chances, balancing with the perfect taste between what these tunes are (tradition) and the individual qualities of the performers' personal voices (future). Here's an album for fans of standard jazz and avant-garde aficionados alike. Here's a new direction, a fresh rendition of and for jazz.

Kresten Osgood Quintet is:

Erik Kimestad - trumpet

Mads Egetoft - saxophone

Jeppe Zeeberg - piano

Matthias Petri - bass

Kresten Osgood - drums

Kresten Osgood is one of these people who at the same time defy and totally own categories. An extraordinary drummer and improviser who with the fullest respect to tradition, challenges it at any given moment of his creative endeavors. He has about a 100 albums to his credit, toured practically everywhere, has been performing and recording with legends like Roscoe Mitchell, Paul Bley, William Parker, Derek Bailey, Wadada Leo Smith, Jason Moran, Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Marc Dresser, Peter Brötzman, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Mats Gustafsson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Sam Rivers, James Blood Ulmer, John Tchicai, Henry Grimes, Yusef Lateef, Masabumi Kikuchi, and many many others. But even that does't really cover the full spectrum of what he has been up to in his career. A successful rapper, composer, pianist, vocalist, saxophonist and trumpeter, a true multi-instrumentalist, a powerful organizer being an extremely important driving force in lifting and pushing the music life in Copenhagen forward, entertainer with his own shows in TV and radio, receiver of countless awards and honors, and if that's not enough he even has a he even has a chapter dedicated to him in one of the most prominent Danish cook Jakob Mielcke's cookbook. Oh, and he played rock'n'roll at the Danish crown prince Frederik's wedding. A very sharp kaleidoscope man, regardless of the context always realizing his fullest potential.
