"This quartet displays strong unity with everyone contributing to the overwhelming spontaneity...air of flexibility, fun and togetherness probably made this album a joy to make, and it is certainly a joy to listen to. Delirium works like a late-night discussion between friends, where spirits are high and all ideas are encouraged and debated. We are privileged to have a chance to listen in." - All About Jazz Magazine, USA
Listening to the music of DELIRIUM feels like an exciting journey, delving headlong into the multi-faceted jazz from the northern latitudes. The group, consisting of four leading figures of the European jazz and improvised music scene, three Danes and a Finn; four genuine musical trailblazers of their generation.
“Green Side Up” is their third release, and a follow-up to two critically acclaimed DELIRIUM CDs: “Delirium” (Fiasko Records, 2002) and “Eclexistence” (TUM Records, 2005).
“Green Side Up” was recorded in Copenhagen in the autumn of 2009 after an exceptionally fruitful period for the group, following North American and European tours with performances at such prestigious festivals as The Rochester International Jazz Festival and The Vancouver Jazz Festival.
“Green Side Up” features ten original compositions and brings out a fresh, new perspective of group interplay – an interplay that has been groomed over 12 years of playing together. Tonal fireworks, haunting melodies, locked-in grooves, far-out abstractions, percussive explosions, solid swing, a deep and heartfelt feeling of the blues; the soulful essence of the musical expression of DELIRIUM.
Here's some more DELIRIUM for you !
Mikko Innanen (b. 1978) saxophonist, composer. In the last ten or so years, Innanen has established his position as one of the most innovative saxophonists and composers on the Finnish and the Nordic scene for jazz and improvised music. To date, he has published 15 recordings as a leader or co-leader and more than ten as a sideman.
Kasper Tranberg: (b.1971) trumpetist, cornetist, composer. Tranberg has been a member of a number of Danish groups, including Copenhagen Art Ensemble, Ok-Nok-Kongo with saxophonist John Tchicai and guitarist Pierre Dørge’s New Jungle Orchestra. He has also performed with a.o. Mercer Ellington, Steve Swallow, Charlie Haden, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner.
Jonas Westergaard: (b.1976) bassist, composer. Westergaard’s bass playing has long since found its way to improv as well as more traditional jazz audiences. He is one of the most in-demand bassplayers in Europe, and is of a generation of Danish jazz musicians who orientate themselves internationally and who with ease play music that crosses traditions and genre boundaries
Stefan Pasborg: (b.1974) drummer, composer. Two time Grammy-winner, and a highly energetic drummer from the melting pot of Copenhagen. He has toured the most of Europe and in USA, Canada, Africa and Asia - both as a leader and as a sideman. His first release as a leader - TriplePoint (ILK 2007) – was selected into worldwide TOP 5 "Best Debut Albums of 2007" by All About Jazz Magazine, New York.

DownBeat Magazin, USA:
''Green Side Up is the third album by the quartet Delirium, a wonderful post-Ornette Coleman combo that injects bracing energy and exacting chaos into pithy original compostitions. Volcanic Finnish reedist Mikko Innanen is joined by three of Denmark's best players - bassist Jonas Westergaard, trumpeter Kasper Tranberg and drummer Stefan Pasborg - and they peerlesly navigate sharp post-bop heads, rhythms that veer from swift swing to kinetic turbulence and extended improvisation that careens from astute motific development to bulldozing free blowing. They cover lots of stylistic and temporal turf with an energy level and sense of joy that's deeply infectious.'' ****
