Anders Filipsen (b. 1979) is a pianist and composer living in Copenhagen. Has attended the Rhythmic Conservatory in Copenhagen, which he finished in 2010, and was soon afterwards accepted to ILK. Is primarily focused on free improvisation, and the possibilities of combining it with other art forms and new ways of composition. His piano playing can best be described as percussive and highly energetic, and it has been said of him that he: ”…shows sparkling piano playing and a thorough, deep and honest expression.” (Nikolaj Hess, summer 2010). As a composer he is focused on ways of combining improvisation and composition in more holistic ways. The tonal-language is inspired by real sounds as well as modern/avant-garde jazz and contemporary classical music. He has written for larger ensembles and small groups as well as having written music for several films.
Anders Filipsen has worked with musicians such as John Tchicai, Kresten Osgood, Lindha Kallerdahl and Andrew D’Angelo. He has worked as a sideman and co-initiator on records with bands such as Petrus Kapell and Tahina and has in his own name released the album ”About Time ” with his nonet The White Nothing. He has the last couple of years been an initiator of festivals focusing on improvisation such as Ekspiditionen (together with Kresten Osgood and Little Red Suitcase) and Beyond Control (dance/music festival).
He is primarily working with bands of his own or as a co-founder such as his nonet The White Nothing, the duo LoFi (with Luxemburgian drummer Marc Lohr), BUSK, Tahina, the performance group Superhands, Lima Lima and the indiegroup Traveling Tribes. He has in the last couple of years toured with these groups and others in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Holland and Luxemburg. He has received support from the Danish Art Council and was given the UniDanmark Talent award in 2001.
