During a long period of musical education at music schools and the Conservatory in Copenhagen Kresten was exposed to a very broad spectrum of musical ideas and traditions from singersongwriters, classical percussion pieces and the blues to jazz, soul and marimba ensembles. In this process the young drummer realized that there are infinite possibilities of expression in music and that he had to incorporate these different vibes in his own sounds. A good way to dig up a sound or a feeling from someone is also to spend some time with them. How they look, talk, walk, drive a car, tell a joke, eat or deal with other people can help you to understand their rhythm when they play or give you some clue to realizing what exact sensitivity a composer was aiming at when he wrote a piece. It´s not so much about knowing many styles its more about personifying each piece of music you play and knowing as much music as possible is the key to being able to do that. Kresten Osgood has recorded improvised duos with: Steve Beresford, Derek Bailey, William Parker, John Tchicai, Oliver Lake and Tim Berne. He has toured with the Kurt Rosenwinkel Trio, Michael Blake´s Blake Tartare, Dr. Lonnie Smith, John Tcicai and Oliver Lake. He has played gigs with Steven Bernstein, Pinetop Perkins, David Tronzo, Brad Mehldau, Tim Berne, Herb Robertson, Sam Yahel, Joshua Redman, Joel Frahm and Peter Brötzmann. Kresten Osgood is the leader of 5 different bands, some are outthere some are inside but all his activities serve the same overall purpose: to search for those little bits and pieces of true human experience and emotion that music is able to release and incorporate them in his own sounds. Then use it to affect the people who are listening and try to share the experiences with them.
